SCIENCE TALK The Protein Puzzle

free of charge

Science Theatre

In August, Dr Maren Schubert will be a guest speaker at the Science Talk at phaeno. In her talk, ‘The Protein Puzzle: How we defeat infectious agents using their own building blocks’, she will provide insights into modern biotechnology and research into new diagnostic and therapeutic methods.

Dr Schubert is working on so-called virus-like particles (VLPs). These harmless ‘empty virus shells’ help in the development of new medicines, vaccines and diagnostic methods. Her research could lead to faster tests and more targeted therapies against infectious diseases in the future.

Since September 2025, Dr Maren Schubert has been the HUMAN Junior Research Group Leader at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research and also works as a lecturer at the Technical University of Braunschweig.

The Science Talk is organised in collaboration with the Volkswagen Group and will be held in a hybrid format – in person and via a live YouTube stream – to make it accessible to a wider audience of interested people outside the region.
