Exciting facts for little researchers!

What's behind a laser show?

A laser show looks like magic - but there's a lot of exciting science behind it! A laser is no ordinary light. Laser light is super-focused and particularly powerful, so it can reach very far and create bright colours. The most important ingredients for a laser show are

Laser beams: These consist of light in a single colour that is very straight and precise. At phaeno, lasers in the colours red, green and blue are used. When these colours are mixed, new colours are created, such as pink or yellow - almost like painting!

Mirrors and motors: To enable the laser beams to "dance", they are directed onto tiny mirrors that move very quickly. The mirrors send the beams in all directions, conjuring up patterns and shapes in the air.

Fog: The fog in the room is particularly important! Without fog, the rays would remain almost invisible. The fog "catches" the light so that you can see the lines and patterns.

Music: The movements of the lasers are precisely coordinated with the music - this is called synchronisation. As a result, the laser beam "dances" to the beat of the music.
