The phaeno Science Centre in Wolfsburg will kick off this year’s phaeno Summer with an Open Day on 4 July 2026. The exhibition will be open from 10 am to 6 pm, and a varied programme of special events will be on offer for visitors from 11 am onwards. Admission is free.
The highlight will be the hands-on project ‘DIY Music’ in the outdoor area of phaeno: a group of artists from Berlin will be inviting visitors to build their own ‘WackelKlangWesen’ (wobbly sound creatures) from everyday and recycled materials for the on-site performances, as well as fun instruments to take home. The ‘WackelKlangWesen’ are small robots that are integrated by ‘Selbstgebaute Musik’ into a live set of resonant electric machines, thereby producing extraordinary sounds. There will also be hourly performances together with the builders.
The ‘BuckitDrummers’ will provide additional rhythmic highlights, creating impressive beats with buckets, tins and other objects — both at phaeno and during individual performances at the Designer Outlets Wolfsburg.
At phaeno, too, a varied programme full of experiments, hands-on activities and surprises awaits visitors from 11 am to 5 pm:
In the woodwork workshop, children can build small sailing boats; the new science show ‘Break-in at the Lab’ combines excitement with experiments; and extraordinary exhibits in the ‘Waves of Wonder’ exhibition bring physical phenomena to life. The programme is complemented by face painting, balloon art and other activities in the children’s area.
This launch also marks the start of phaenoSummer, which will offer new experiences every day until 12 August 2026. The holiday programme, running from 5 July, focuses on participation, experimentation and wonder at phaeno: visitors can build their own boats, become detectives in interactive shows or explore the exhibition, which – following last year’s major overhaul – is more fresh and exciting than ever before.
Running daily from 10 am to 6 pm until 12 August, the phaenoSommer is an attractive destination for families, children, teenagers and adults, as well as an opportunity to to discover science and technology in a playful way and make the most of the summer holidays – with around 300 exhibits, additional hands-on activities and a constant stream of ‘aha’ moments.
