phaeno will be taking part again in 2026 when Explore Science sets up shop in Magdeburg’s Elbauenpark. From 24 to 26 September 2026, the park will once again be transformed into a vast playground of discovery for the natural sciences.
Curiosity is the driving force behind progress; it leads to discoveries that change our world and to inventions that open up new possibilities. This year, Explore Science is all about the spirit of inquiry behind great ideas: How do inventions come about? What coincidences or experiments lead to groundbreaking discoveries? And how do these shape our lives today and in the future?
Children, school groups and families can look forward to a diverse programme of interactive exhibitions, numerous hands-on stations, workshops, stage shows and competitions. Right at the heart of it all: phaeno, with exciting experiments for visitors to explore for themselves.

Once again this year, the phaeno Science Centre was in attendance – alongside the Institute for Recycling at Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in Wolfsburg. At stand no. 146 in the Eilenriedehalle, the focus was on recycling, upcycling and hands-on science.
Cardboard scraps and plastic offcuts are industrial waste materials that are far from having served their purpose. Visitors were able to discover for themselves what these materials are capable of – building, combining, tinkering and thus giving the materials a new purpose.
Hands-on activity ‘Make something out of it’: at a ‘materials buffet’, a variety of leftover materials were waiting to be discovered and combined – either on your own, in a team or at the large communal table, where a collaborative creation took shape over the course of the day.

On Saturday 1 August 2026, phaeno took part in theVfL Kids’ Day – a special event for little “Wolves”.
Children aged 3 to 13 enjoyed an action-packed day with 20 interactive stations where they could play, discover and try things out. Phaeno also brought along exciting experiments and hands-on activities, ensuring that a spirit of inquiry and the joy of discovery were very much in evidence at the fan festival.
Anyone who successfully completed the interactive trail was rewarded with a special surprise from the WölfiClub.

From 20 to 28 June 2026, phaeno was a guest at the IdeenExpo in Hanover – Europe’s largest youth event for technology and the natural sciences. Under the slogan ‘Just give it a go!’, the Hannover Exhibition Centre was transformed into a huge interactive landscape for nine days: Across more than 100,000 square metres, over 330 exhibitors presented more than 800 exhibits in 14 themed areas for visitors to touch, try out and make themselves.
The aim of the IdeenExpo is to inspire young people to pursue careers in STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – and to give them a hands-on insight into vocational training pathways, degree courses and future technologies. The target audience ranges from school classes and young people to families and prospective students – in short: anyone who fancies discovering science and technology first-hand.
We had our own stand in Hall 7 in the ‘EnergieFeld’ themed area, where everything revolves around solar, wind, battery systems and raw materials. We brought along our own energy exhibits, which allowed visitors to experiment with physical phenomena relating to energy and energy conversion for themselves.
