Heinrich Heidersberger mural 1955/2024

Heinrich Heidersberger stands for inexhaustible curiosity and a playful and exploratory approach to nature and scientific phenomena. His pictures show experiments on topics such as currents, electrical discharges and magnetism, reflecting precisely the core content that also characterises phaeno.

A particular new highlight is the permanent display on a previously rather dull, long grey wall, which is mainly used for school workshops. The timeless black and white photographs by Heidersberger give this room a new vibrancy and encourage people to be curious and observe nature and the environment with alert eyes. The subtle elegance of the images blends harmoniously into the space without being intrusive, creating an inspiring learning atmosphere.

This special installation was realised in close collaboration with the Heidersberger Institute. We have been in contact with Bernd Rodrian, Institut Heidersberger, for several years to plan the integration of Heidersberger's works into our exhibition. Now we have found a worthy place for the artworks - in a central location under the phaeno, which attracts not only our visitors but also numerous passers-by on their way to the DOW (designer Outlet Wolfsbug) railway station or the Autostadt.

With this tribute to Heinrich Heidersberger, we would like to emphasise the importance of his work for the city of Wolfsburg and beyond. His work is not only an important part of the city's history, but also a source of inspiration for everyone who visits phaeno. Discover the fascinating phenomena of science and technology through the eyes of a master of photography and be enchanted by the magic of the images.

science talk: Art vs. science?

In the subsequent panel discussion, Dr Brigitta Coers, Dr Susanne Päch, Prof. Dr Berit Andronis, Benjamin Heidersberger, Giuliano Scollo and Gordon Endt and Jonas Meyburg from the artist collective Unit 404, moderated by Dr Burkhard Krüger, discussed the question: Do art and science go together or not at all? Our high-calibre guests shared their perspectives and opinions on this fascinating topic and provided insights into the synergies and differences between these two worlds.
