As a science museum, we endeavour to make our website and mobile applications accessible in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Disability Equality Act (BGG) and the Accessible Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) implementing Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

The accessibility requirements are set out in sections 3 (1) to (4) and 4 of BITV 2.0, which was issued on the basis of section 12d BGG. This largely corresponds to the standard of WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1) up to Level AA.

Available aids for barrier-free use

This website fulfils the accessibility requirements through the following measures:

  • Alt texts for images: Images have alternative texts that provide a brief description of the image and can be processed by screen readers (screen reading aids).
  • The videos integrated on the website have subtitles.
  • Font sizes can be enlarged using the browser's enlargement option with CTRL and +.
  • The functions can be operated using both the mouse and the keyboard. The mouse pointer can be moved and operated using the control keys on the keyboard.
  • Browser-independent page output: The content and functions of this website are available in identical layout, alignment and resolution regardless of the browser used.
  • Cascading Style Sheets (CSS): A programming language is used which separates the presentation of page content in terms of layout, colour and design from its content structure. This makes it possible for digital tools to use their own visibility schemes to display the page content.
  • Responsive design (adaptation to different screen sizes): The content, elements and functions automatically adapt their dimensions to the size of the screen being used.
  • Scalability (visibility when enlarged): Page elements and content remain legible in high resolution even when enlarged.

Explanations of use.

This website has a header and a footer menu

In the header menu, the exhibitions and events we offer are listed under the menu item "Fascinate me" and can be accessed individually from there. Each exhibition and event has its own page with further information on the exhibits and experiments or on the events with times, registration, costs or age recommendations.

You can also click on "Good to know" in the header menu to find out about other landing pages such as tickets & prices, directions & parking options, as well as accommodation options in Wolfsburg, food & drink inside or outside phaeno. Many other questions are answered via the FAQ section.

In the menu item "Offers for" you will find all relevant information and offers for schools, day-care centres, families, companies and clubs and people interested in science.

The last menu item is about phaeno and its architecture, jobs, press and the event location phaeno.

In the footer menu you will find our imprint with our contact information as well as information on data protection and the setting for cookie consent. This website can be operated via virtual buttons.

Start, overview and detail pages

As an alternative to the header menu, you will find a selection of events and exhibitions on offer and the target group buttons on the start page. On each page there is a button for the event calendar and the ticket shop button. Day and annual tickets can be purchased in the ticket shop - but not tickets for shows, lectures or training courses. These can only be purchased in the phaeno at the ticket office, sometimes also at the information desk. For bookings for school classes or workshops, please contact the Service Centre on 05361.890 100 or email entdecke@phaeno.de. The Service Centre is open from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm.

Restrictions/not yet accessible content

  • Some PDF documents that were created before the current accessibility guidelines came into force may not be accessible. These will gradually be replaced by accessible PDF documents. New files will be created in accessible versions in future.
  • Links to external applications or websites may lead to non-accessible content.
  • Not all videos have subtitles. However, new videos will always be uploaded with subtitles in future.
  • Pages in easy/simple language are being planned.

We are also continuing to work on measures in our exhibition to make the visit equally enjoyable for everyone.
