Young woman

What awaits you in the FSJ Culture at phaeno.

Who can answer that better than Emely. She started her FSJ at phaeno in August. So let's ask her.

Emely, why did you apply for the FSJ at phaeno?

Emely: After completing my A-levels, I wanted to find my feet professionally. It was also important for me to gain practical experience to see what I'm interested in and where my strengths lie. In the end, I decided to do a FSJ in culture and education at phaeno, as I mainly wanted to familiarise myself with the areas of event management and marketing. However, it was also important to me to choose a placement that was diverse, gave me lots of insights into different professions and supported me during this year of career orientation. The phaeno is perfect for this!

Describe your tasks at phaeno?

Emely: As an FSJ student, I do tasks from different areas. This means it's always varied and there's always something new to discover. I quickly felt at home in the communications team and help with creating social media content, for example. I create articles and reels on current topics in the exhibition or for events. I also support the service team and therefore have a lot of contact with my colleagues in the exhibition area and, of course, with the guests. I also support the curatorial team. I have already learnt a lot and gained an insight, for example when new exhibitions are organised or when exhibits are exchanged.

What do you like about the FSJ?

Emely: I particularly like the fact that you get involved in many areas, get to know a lot of new things and realise what you particularly enjoy and what you like. Through the FSJ, I also rediscovered photography for myself. The FSJ made me realise what my strengths are and how I want my future to continue after this year.

What does a day as an FSJ at phaeno look like?

Emely: At phaeno, no two days are the same. But when I arrive in the morning, I first sit down at my desk and check my emails. Most of my work assignments are sent to me via Outlook. Then I organise my day, also with a view to the coming days.

What projects are you currently working on?

Emely: I'm currently helping with the YouTube channel and creating thumbnails. I'm also organising the Future Day together with my colleague from Online Marketing. We're planning a social media campaign together with the kids - we want them to learn about social media marketing and what it involves, such as video editing in combination with our exhibits. They should learn about communication but also have fun.

Did the FSJ help you with your career or study choice?

Emely: Yes, definitely! The FSJ gave me my first insights into the world of work. I got to know a lot of people with whom I was able to talk about studying, training and choosing a career in general. I was able to gain an overview of where my strengths lie. I hope that creativity will be a big part of my future career.

Thank you very much Emely :-)
